World Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebrated with Great Enthusiasm at Chapabar Bhelwatoli

Ranchi — World Indigenous Peoples’ Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural pride in Chapabar Bhelwatoli village under Ormanjhi Block. Men, women, and children of the village dressed in their traditional attire, dancing to the beats of drums and nagadas (traditional percussion instruments), warmly welcomed the guests and escorted them to the akhada (community gathering ground). The entire village appeared immersed in the festive spirit.

The program began by paying floral tributes to the valiant tribal heroes of the past. A two-minute silence was observed for the eternal peace of the late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The gathering took a collective pledge that walking on the path of Guruji’s ideals, policies, and principles would be the truest form of tribute.

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Oraon graced the occasion as the chief guest. Special guests included Tulsi Kharwar, Suresh Prasad Sahu, and Harimohan Mahato.

In his address, chief guest Ramesh Oraon stated that World Indigenous Peoples’ Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 1994, and has been observed internationally every year since August 9, 1995. Its objective is to promote unity and brotherhood among indigenous communities, preserve their culture, traditions, and customs, and raise awareness about their rights and holistic development.

On this occasion, the guests honored men, women, and social workers present by draping them with Sarna gamchas (traditional scarves). The program was conducted by senior social worker Jagmohan Munda.

Those present in large numbers included Sonia Devi, Birsi Devi, Karmi Devi, Somi Devi, Jatri Devi, Tanu Devi, Basanti Devi, Budhni Devi, Sangeeta Devi, Munni Devi, Tooti Devi, Jitendra Oraon, Ashish Oraon, Somar Oraon, Tetra Oraon, Kartik Oraon, Ajay Oraon, Sandeep Pandya, Bhekhan Oraon, Nuwa Oraon, Birsa Oraon, along with numerous men, women, and children from the village.
