Suman Suicide Case Sparks Outrage: Demand for Action Against Illegal Hotels and Lodges in Irba
Ranchi: The case of the suicide of 24-year-old tribal woman Suman Kumari at Kumar Lodge in Irba, under Ormanjhi police station in Ranchi, has stirred widespread concern. The deceased’s family has accused Sajeb Hanif and his fellow employees of mentally and emotionally harassing Suman and abetting her suicide.
Tribal Community Stands in Solidarity:
On April 16, a delegation of the Adivasi 22 Padhha Sarna Committee (Sadma, Ormanjhi, Kanke region), led by its president Babulal Mahli, visited Tuku Toli to meet the bereaved family and offer their condolences. Babulal Mahli expressed that the community stands firmly with the family in this time of grief.

He thanked Ormanjhi police in-charge Anil Kumar Tiwari and his team for the prompt arrest of the accused, Sajeb Hanif, and demanded the immediate arrest of other involved individuals. He further called for them to be tried under serious charges, including murder, and to be sentenced to death if found guilty.
Deputy Pramukh Rizwan Ansari and other committee members also visited Kumar Lodge and questioned the lodge caretaker. An inspection of the lodge register confirmed that both the victim and the accused had stayed together in Room No. 05. The caretaker was reprimanded for negligence, and the administration was urged to thoroughly review CCTV footage and take strict action against all culprits.

Additionally, the Adivasi 22 Padhha Sarna Committee has demanded that the administration investigate the registration status of all hotels and lodges operating in the Irba area. They urged strict action against unlicensed establishments, calling it a necessary step to ensure social safety and to prevent the exploitation of youth.
The committee informed the media that a formal memorandum will be submitted to the Ormanjhi police station on April 17, 2025. Jharkhand Pradesh Adivasi Sarna Padhha Samaj president of Muna Patra, Ormanjhi, Samundra Pahan, will also be present on this occasion.
