Ranchi— On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, Manrakhan Mahto Nursing College, Kedal, organized a street play at the Kedal Panchayat Bhavan to raise awareness among rural women about the importance of breastfeeding. The program aimed to communicate the necessity, benefits, and health advantages of breastfeeding, especially among mothers and young women in rural communities, in a simple and effective manner. The nursing students of the college delivered this crucial message through a powerful medium of mass communication — a street play. They emphasized that feeding breast milk within the first hour of birth is a vital first step in saving a newborn’s life. The play highlighted key themes such as: The emotional bond between mother and child through breastfeeding. Enhanced immunity in the child. The positive health impact on the mother. All these were presented in an engaging, simple, and local dialect, making it easily relatable for the audience. The event saw active participation from local women and young girls, who not only appreciated the students’ performance but also demanded that such awareness campaigns be held regularly. On this occasion, Principal Prof. Chitravel V. stated that Manrakhan Mahto Nursing College is not only committed to providing quality nursing education but is also actively involved in promoting community health awareness and social responsibility. The program concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective pledge, where everyone resolved to: Ensure exclusive breastfeeding for infants for the first six months and spread awareness about its importance in society.
