Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a review meeting with health department officials regarding the prevention of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and arrangements for treating affected patients. The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s residential office on Kanke Road, with Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari joining online. The discussion focused on the symptoms, side effects, and preventive measures of Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
The Chief Minister instructed the officials to identify patients affected by Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and make special arrangements to provide them with timely medical care. He also ordered a widespread awareness campaign to prevent the spread of this disease. The Chief Minister clarified that the disease spreads through contaminated water and the consumption of raw food, but it does not spread from person to person like COVID-19. Therefore, he emphasized that there should be no unnecessary fear or confusion among the public regarding this disease.
The Chief Minister further directed that arrangements be made to check individuals coming to Jharkhand from areas with a high number of GBS patients. Additionally, he proposed setting up a free testing center for Guillain-Barré Syndrome in every city or locality.
The Chief Minister also instructed that hospitals be equipped with necessary facilities like beds, medicines, and medical oxygen. He said that if any cases of the disease are reported, they should be immediately referred to RIMS, and transportation arrangements should be kept alert to ensure that patients receive timely and quality medical care.
During the review meeting, RIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar informed that RIMS is fully prepared to treat this disease. He assured that guidelines related to Guillain-Barré Syndrome would soon be made available to all Civil Surgeons. He also mentioned that RIMS is on high alert regarding this disease, and any suspected cases should be promptly referred to RIMS.
The Chief Minister also directed all Civil Surgeons to stay updated with news, activities, and developments related to this disease so that necessary actions can be taken in a timely manner.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said:
“There is no need to panic about GBS, but awareness is crucial for its prevention. All departments must remain active in spreading awareness and ensuring proper treatment arrangements.”
