Blackout During Mock Drill in Doranda, Ranchi; 250 People Rescued

Ranchi:- The Ranchi district administration successfully conducted a comprehensive mock drill on civil defense and disaster management in the Doranda area. The exercise was carried out as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, with the primary objective of ensuring a swift, coordinated, and effective response during disaster situations.

The mock drill was led by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate-cum-District Disaster Management Officer Manjunath Bhajantri and DIG-cum-Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Sinha.

The exercise took place at MECON building, Doranda, on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, initiated with the sounding of sirens. During the drill, combined rescue operations were conducted by teams from NDRF, police administration, fire brigade, ambulance/medical units, and NCC.

According to Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, approximately 250 people were successfully evacuated from the affected area. Nine individuals (simulated victims) were shown as injured during the exercise, one of whom was portrayed as critically injured and was promptly shifted to a temporary medical camp set up at BMP School.

A complete blackout was enforced in the Doranda area during the mock drill. Citizens were pre-informed and sensitized to minimize inconvenience during the exercise. People cooperated by keeping their home lights turned off and strictly following traffic diversions, with minimal use of vehicle lights observed throughout the area.

Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri appreciated the public’s support, stating, “Such mock drills not only test our disaster response mechanisms but are also significantly empowered by active citizen participation.”

DIG and Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Sinha also commended the active and coordinated efforts of all participating agencies—NDRF, police force, fire brigade, medical teams, and NCC—and thanked the public for their disciplined cooperation.

This drill has further strengthened the district’s disaster preparedness framework, enhancing the administration’s ability to respond effectively to any future emergencies.
